Your guide to Limpopo’s best coffee shops
Millions of people from around the world travel to Limpopo every year to experience first-hand some of the best that Africa has to offer. From incredible nature reserves to quaint towns, fascinating sites of cultural heritage to music festivals, there is something for everyone in this beautiful slice of Africa.
As a coffee lover who’s been living in Limpopo for over a decade, I’ve had the pleasure of being able to experience the warm hospitality offered by the people of South Africa’s northernmost province. Here are my 10 favourite coffee shops in Limpopo – in no particular order.
Hoedspruit Café – Hoedspruit
Donuts, cakes, ice creams and pastries make this beautiful bakery a must-visit if you’re travelling to the area.
Wag ‘n Bietjie Padstal en Coffee Shop – Hoedspruit
If you’re travelling with kids, you have to stop at this store selling local produce, gifts and light meals with its small petting zoo and play area.
Mountain Café – Haenertsburg
Overlooking Stanford lake, you’ll find fresh, local cuisine at this lovely little spot. Look out for their annual blueberry festival.
Twig’s coffee shop – Tzaneen
What a beautiful setting for this delightful coffee shop featuring milkshakes, sandwiches and quiches.
Sugar Cube Café – Polokwane
You’ll love the vibe at this local favourite, and the coffee is really fantastic. Enjoy it alongside quiches, schnitzels, burgers and incredible ice teas in the balmy garden.
The Olive Tree – Tzaneen
You have to try the cakes at this wonderful coffee shop/gift shop in Tzaneen. Our advice? Come hungry.
Magoebaskloof Farm Stall and Café – Tzaneen
Situated on the R71 between Haenertsburg and Tzaneen, this is the option of choice for vegetarians and the eco-conscious. The coffee is fab!
Bayhound Coffee Works – Polokwane
These people are serious coffee experts – don’t be surprised if this place is packed. It’s well worth a visit!
The Grind – Polokwane
Although not a physical coffee shop (the Grind is a tuk tuk that travels around Polokwane), I love their story, how they started and other products they sell.
Summer Café – Hoedspruit
Relax under the trees enjoying lovely coffee, a sandwich and some delicious cake in this little gem in the heart of Hoedspruit.
Can’t make it to one of these coffee shops? Then don’t worry, you can buy coffee online right here at Bean in the Bush.
